Safe Driving Practices
Remain at a safe distance: Remaining at a 4-6 second follow distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
Clear intersections: You must slow down and clear intersections before continuing.
Overtaking: You may only overtake another emergency vehicle if the vehicle is failing to meet the speeds required or is causing endangerment due to their driving. This must be called out over the radio.
Right of Way: When attaching to the response you must allow any unit who is currently attached to go ahead of you if attaching would cause them to crash and or put other(s) at risk.
Offroading: Fire vehicles may offroad if going offroad is the best, safest, and most efficient route to the emergency. Emergency vehicles may cut corners and cross grass at turns and intersections.
Opposite Lanes of Traffic: LKFD vehicles may drive on opposite lanes of traffic to reach an emergency, provided they go at least 15 mph under the speed limit.
