Guidelines and approval criteria for custom uniforms.
Uniforms within LKFD fall into one of a couple categories, these include:
Operational Uniforms (Bunkers, Turnouts, etc)
Station, Class B Uniform
Class A "Formal" uniforms
Class C or Polo uniforms
When requesting a uniform, you must specify the category. Examples are provided below.
Custom uniforms are not permitted on scenes where bunkers are needed. Bunker gear is specifically designed to keep the wearer safe, and custom uniforms may not have the protective or visible properties of the bunker gear. LKFD Bunker gear is colored by rank, as per the handbook, and also allows for easy identification of medics, firefighters, officers, and chiefs.
Technical Rescue uniforms are used by advanced rescue technicians to easily identify them on a scene. These suits are NOT fire retardant, but are waterproof, hazmat rated, and fully sealed.
Custom uniforms for tech rescue must:
Have "LKFD" easily displayed
Be fully sealed suits
Have reflective elements
Match LKFD color schemes
The medical uniforms are breathable and waterproof gortex jackets with tactical-slack style pants. These uniforms are designed to allow the user to move quickly, and stay dry, in any situation. These are not rated for fire scenes.
Custom medical uniforms must:
Have clear medical insignia on all sides
Clearly state "LC", "LKFD", or "FD"
Contain a reflective horizontal stripe on all sides
Formal uniforms have NO custom variants. Some ribbons may be worn via t-shirt, if earned.
There are many class B variants available. Generally, LKFD uses a utility, BDU-style navy blue or black uniform. Class B is the default station wear for LKFD.
Custom station wear variants must:
Be professional and non-vulgar
Have some sort of LKFD related insignia
and CAN be t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, sweaters, etc
STATION WEAR and CLASS B are not the same.
Class B is used for events and AS a station wear uniform.
Station wear is any uniform worn casually, in the station (or on food runs, workouts, etc). These may be worn on non-fire or non-hazardous calls, particularly when a fire apparatus is used as lift-assist for a medical call.
Custom uniforms are not permitted for Fire Police. Fire Police Uniforms are designed for visibility and positive identification. The high risk posed to LEOs in Lakeview requires the utmost caution to be used when positive identification is involved.
