The Special Operations Battalion is responsible for overseeing the district’s specialized response units and advanced technical programs. It manages the Fire Marshals and supervises the CalFire (Hotshots) Wildfire unit. The battalion also develops, maintains, and provides training for advanced certifications such as Hazardous Materials Response and Contagious Disease Control. Working closely with the Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Battalions, Special Operations ensures that specialized teams and certifications remain effective, current, and ready for deployment. Its focus is on maintaining high standards of technical capability and coordination across all specialty units within the Lakeview City Fire District.
The Fire Marshals are responsible for maintaining safety and order at all Lakeview City Fire District emergency scenes. Their duties include regulating and directing traffic, protecting firefighters, medics, and civilians, and keeping fire lanes, hydrants, and operational areas clear for district use. Deputy Fire Marshals ensure that every scene remains secure and that responders can work without interference or unnecessary risk. They also enforce the orders of the Fire Chief and assist in maintaining perimeter control during major incidents. Through discipline and coordination, the Fire Marshals play a vital role in ensuring safe and efficient emergency operations across the district.
The LKFR Hazardous Materials Unit, or otherwise described as HAZMAT, provides safety on scenes for Firefighters, EMS, and any other assisting agencies. HAZMAT falls under the SOB (Special Operations Battalion), tasked with managing incidents involving hazardous materials, chemicals, substances, etc. Operating in an urban environment that includes residential neighbourhoods, industrial zones, major highways, and a busy waterfront district, the unit is equipped with advanced detetication and monitoring technology, chemical protective equipment, decontamination systems, and specialized containment tools. HAZMAT personnel respond to calls streching from transportation accidents, to industrial leaks. HAZMAT stands to protect citizens, environment, and the infrastructure of Lakeview.
