The Emergency Medical Battalion is responsible for all medical operations within the Lakeview City Fire District. It manages the training, certification, and deployment of medical personnel at every level, from Emergency Medical Responder through Paramedic. The battalion develops and maintains the district’s medical training programs, including EMT and Paramedic courses, and provides continuing education for certified members. The Battalion Chief of Emergency Medical leads the battalion’s squads and ensures coordination between field units, dispatch, and Fire & Rescue operations to provide seamless, high-quality emergency medical service to the community.
The Tactical Emergency Medical Company is a specialized unit within the Emergency Medical Battalion that operates in coordination with the Fire Police Company to provide lifesaving care during violent or high risk incidents. TEMS personnel respond before a scene is fully secured by law enforcement, working in small teams of two to three members, usually one to two medics paired with one Fire Police officer. The Fire Police officer provides defensive protection for both medics and patients, maintaining scene security and retaining custody of criminal patients until they are transferred to Lakeview Law Enforcement. TEMS medics are trained to operate under fire using cover, tactical vehicle blocking, and rapid triage methods. Their medical procedures are based on the United States Army Special Operations Command Tactical Combat Casualty Care program, emphasizing aggressive life saving interventions in dangerous environments.
